Skype 5.0 version for Windows has pimped itself up by integrating a Facebook tab as one of its many improvements.

So, what are the perks of this networking addition? It makes connecting to your Facebook friends way easier: you can chat, send text messages or Skype them right from the News Feed.

Facebook and Skype marriage works well in the new Skype Home part of the application. All you have to do is to click and the Skype Home icon and a dashboard with all the important alerts, mood feeds and statuses will pop out in front of you.  This is where you may come across the Facebook tab that allows you to view the News Feed and Phonebook.

How does it work? Let’s say that you are reading some interesting status and instead of just commenting on it, you want to talk to your friend about it. There are several scenarios:

  1. If your friend is one of your Skype contacts, there will be the well know green Skype button below his/her status that enables you to make a free call.
  2. If you are not connected via Skype but you are both on at the same time, the button will appear as well together with an option of adding him/her to Skype.
  3. If you are not mutually connected and not online but your friend has provided his/her telephone number to Facebook, you can still make a call using Skype but not a free one.
  4. If you want to talk to someone else than the person who wrote the status, you can just list through Facebook Phonebook section and look up whoever you want.

Fancy a conference call? Before the updates, conference calls and a video didn’t mix together. However, Skype has worked hard on this major downfall and developed improved 10-way group video calls. Finally, you can see whether everyone is actually in the room when you are talking to them.

Plus, everything has become more visual (a typical trend of today’s society).  Profile pictures gained on size and are displayed right next to the name of your contact, which should make the orientation in the contact list way easier and quicker. So, have you tried it out already?
